📺 In context
애교 is not just being cute — it's a SOCIAL TOOL used to get things done. Both men and women use it, though women use it more visibly. In Korean culture, 애교 is a skill, not a personality trait. Even CEOs use versions of it.
애교 levels
살짝 애교: 말끝 올리기~Slight: raising the end of sentences~
보통 애교: 오빠~/언니~ + 뿌잉뿌잉Medium: adding 오빠~/언니~ + cute sounds
강한 애교: 아잉~ 나 이거 갖고 싶어~Strong: baby voice + wanting things cutely
극한 애교: 코끼리 애교, 뽀뽀 애교Extreme: elephant trunk pose, kiss gesture (idol level)
남자 애교: 형~ 밥 사줘~ 나 배고파~Male 애교: hyung~ buy me food~ I'm hungry~
Male 애교 is increasingly common and accepted, especially among Gen Z. K-pop male idols normalized male cuteness. The 'cringe' factor depends on execution and confidence — done well, it's charming. Done badly, it's 오글거리다 (cringeworthy).
💡

애교 in relationships is not optional in Korean dating — it's expected to some degree. If your Korean partner asks 애교 해줘 (do 애교 for me), they mean it. Refusing with 그런 거 안 해 (I don't do that) will lead to 서운하다. Even a small attempt counts. Koreans value the effort of being cute.
