카카오 T is the go-to for late-night taxis. But at peak hours (1-3 AM on weekends), it's nearly impossible. 택시 잡히다 (to catch a taxi) uses the passive form because YOU don't catch the taxi — you HOPE one accepts your ride.
Getting home strategies
막차 몇 시야?What time is the last train?
막차 놓쳤어...I missed the last train...
첫차까지 기다릴까?Should we wait for the first train?
찜질방 가서 자자Let's sleep at a jjimjilbang
걸어갈 수 있어?Can you walk home?
대리운전 불러Call a designated driver
Missing 막차 is a Korean nightlife milestone. Options: 1) Expensive taxi. 2) 찜질방 (jjimjilbang — Korean spa, open 24hrs, sleep on the floor for ~15,000 won). 3) 카페/PC방 (wait until 첫차). 4) Walk (if close enough). Most Koreans have done all four.
The most Korean goodbye: 집에 잘 들어가 (get home safe) + 도착하면 카톡해 (KakaoTalk me when you arrive). This is MANDATORY between close friends. Not sending the 'arrived home' message? Your friend WILL worry and text '야 집 도착했어?' (hey did you get home?). It's care expressed through check-ins.
