MT is officially 'membership training' but everyone knows it's a drinking trip with some games. It's THE bonding ritual for Korean university clubs, departments, and companies. Skipping MT = missing out on social bonds.

MT is where Korean social hierarchies form. Your MT performance (how fun you are, how much you participate) determines your social position for the semester. No pressure.
MT tip: bring 소주 as a gift for 선배, prepare a 장기자랑 (even a simple dance), and know at least one drinking game. The social investment of one MT weekend pays dividends all semester. Also: bring hangover drinks for the morning after. You'll need them.
